CITRONNE GALLERY

George Lappas (1950 – 2016) was a pioneering Greek artist with a varied and innovative work exhibited internationally. He introduced through his work a perception of space in close relationship to the body and movement. Recurring features such as the fragmentation and the rearrangement of parts, the challenging of proportion, discontinuity, and mutability, a psychological underlayer as well as the coexistence of opposing traits such as movement and immobility, instability and balance, elevation and fall evoke a pending, fluid situation and, together with other characteristics, consolidate the distinct personality of George Lappas’s work.

George Lappas (1950 – 2016) was a pioneering Greek artist with a varied and innovative work exhibited internationally. His work includes large installations, constructions, sculptures, and drawings. It has been presented in prestigious events such as the Venice Biennale (Aperto, 1988 and Greek National Pavillion, 1990), at the Biennale of Sao Paolo (1987) and Alexandria (1984) as well as in exhibitions such as Metropolis (1991) at the Martin Gropius Bau.  

CITRONNE Gallery-Athens commenced its operations in November 2018, building upon and expanding the efforts initiated on the island of Poros in the summer of 2006. Founded and directed by art historian Dr. Tatiana Spinari-Pollalis, the gallery collaborates with distinguished Greek artists and those of the Greek diaspora, exploring the intersections between the local and the global. Additionally, it showcases thematic exhibitions featuring emerging artists and curators. The gallery aims to provide an accessible space that encourages interdisciplinary dialogue through lectures, panel events, and research-based exhibitions. Furthermore, CITRONNE Gallery serves as a platform for reflecting on and documenting artistic currents, producing curated publications. Since 2013, CITRONNE-Poros has partnered with the Archaeological Museum of Poros, organizing temporary exhibitions highlighting the work of contemporary artists. The gallery has also engaged in collaborations with international organizations, including OECD Paris.
